Frequently Asked Questions

What is TC3?
  • TC3 provides transportation services to senior citizens and people with disabilities living in the community to enable them to maintain maximum independence in daily activities.  Rides are provided at minimal cost to medical appointments, social and recreational activities, shopping, etc.  TC3 is composed of 13 Consortium members working together to provide transportation to individuals referred by these communities and organizations.  The unique TC3 model uses a cooperative effort to schedule the use of the specially equipped vans, drivers and support staff. This means that we can use our resources efficiently at the same time that we increase our services.
What area does TC3 service?
  • Van service is available within a large geographic area encompassing the east side suburbs, downtown Cleveland and University Circle hospitals and cultural facilities.  TC3 is housed at the Shaker Community Building at 3450 Lee Road, Shaker Heights.
When does TC3 operate?
  • TC3 hours of operation have been expanded. We can now accept ride requests from 8 am to 8 pm Monday–Saturday and 8 am-6 pm on Sundays.  The community or organization that is your TC3 sponsor can also arrange group trips using TC3.
How do I sing up for TC3?
  • A rider must be registered by one of the sponsoring organizations that is a TC3 partner.  The registration form asks for some information about the rider's needs and emergency contact information.
How much does TC3 charge for the service?
  • TC3 charges an annual $5 fee to register a new member into aour database.  After that, rides are $1 each way.  The fee will go up to $2 per ride in August 2005.
Who can ride with TC3?
  • Generally, TC3 riders are fairly independent.  Senior citizens over age 60 and people with disabilities are eligible to be TC3 riders.  They should be able to get to and from the van, recognize the van, communicate with the driver, be aware of where they are going and able to notify TC3 if there is a problem.  Riders may use an aide or family member to assist them.  Riders who are unable to carry groceries or other packages must use a grocery cart.
Can TC3 handle a wheelchair?
  • Yes, our vans are equipped with wheelchair restraint systems.  Riders can use a cane, walker, wheelchair or scooter.  We encourage riders to use a portable shopping cart for their groceries.
Can I use TC3 for trips other than medical appointments?
  • Riders can use TC3 for grocery shopping, social activities, volunteer work, trips to the hairdresser, bank, lectures and religious services. TC3 is not medical transportation so while riders can certainly use TC3 for medical appointments, they should not ride TC3 if they have had anesthesia or same day surgical procedures.
How often can I use TC3?  How much in advance should I call?  How do I request a ride?
  • Generally our service is limited to twice a week to give everyone a chance to ride.  Please call one week ahead to request your ride if at all possible.  Exceptions can be made for dialysis or chemotherapy appointments.
  • Call the office at 216-283-1400 from 9 AM to 1 PM to request a ride.
  • TC3 will call you the day before your ride to confirm the time for pick-up.
Will I be the only passenger on the van?  How long will I have to wait?
  • There may be several passengers on the van and the van may stop to pick up or drop off a passenger en route.  Please be ready 15 minutes before your scheduled pick up time.  The van may arrive up to 15 minutes after your pick-up time.
